I like to compare my music to the sea.
I imagine an impenetrable, wise substance
that changes shape depending on the mood.
This is my music.
Agitated and gentle.
Thrilling and calm.
Angry and full of warmth.
It is born deep from the bottom
of my interior, my being,
my heart.
It is intuitive, pure, true.
Hi,
my name is Piotr Zalewski.
Everything begins with the sea.
Not as a place, but as a feeling — something vast, breathing, impossible to hold. Since childhood, I’ve carried its sound within me: sometimes calm, sometimes restless, always alive. My music grows from that inner ocean — from images, movement and intuition.
I compose at the edge of emotion and form, shaped by neoromantic sensitivity, impressionist colour and expressionist depth. I move between piano, chamber, orchestral and choral music, as well as electronic and hybrid forms.
Along the way, I meet people who expand that world. One of them is the legendary Lubomyr Melnyk. Our collaboration led to the album Live from S1, recorded at the iconic S1 Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw.
My debut album IMAGO (2019) told a story of transformation. Soon after, while working at sea, I wrote bezdeń — a piano trilogy shaped by the horizon and the rhythm of waves. Later projects such as rebirth and Live from S2 continued this exploration of sound and space.
On 27 February 2026, I released my second album Wind Tales — a musical story following the Wind on a journey until it meets Melody, a mysterious girl born from the Sea — a reflection on nature, innocence and the invisible forces that connect all beings.
I am also drawn to collective sound. At the invitation of the Camera Varsovia Choir, I composed CREDO for choir and orchestra, performed in the Archcathedral of St. John in Warsaw. Works like Four Seasons for orchestra and choir and Domine non sum dignus for mixed choir explore this shared dimension of music. My composition Nie mów! for orchestra to a poem by Adam Asnyk was awarded at the Tadeusz Ochlewski Competition.
I also reimagine existing music, with reworks recognised in international projects and competitions.
Alongside my artistic work, I compose for exhibitions and commercial projects, and I have been teaching music since 2011.
In the end, everything returns to the same place:
a child at an old piano, playing by ear —
and the sea, always present, always calling.
